Does anyone know anything about the power steering rack in a vr commodore?

I took my vr commodore down to the mechanic to get a blue slip and amonnge many other nitty gritty problems they found, they found a “steering rack leak” and “needs new power steering boot”
They quoted around $600 to fix it but I cant afford to spend much on this so I was hoping to be able to fix this myself as I have usually been able to fix most problems with my car myself

if the steering rack is leaking fluid it will need to be replaced. if it’s not leaking and just has a hole in the boot then all you have to do is unscrew the tie rod end, remember to count the number of turns so you can put it back the same way. then remove the old boot and slide on the new one.
if you can get a Gregory’s manual it will show you in detail how to do this.. good luck
